Newspaper: Gore's millions not helping warming cause

A liberal newspaper washes its hands of far-left hypocrite Al Gore:
It wasn’t just that he lived large, in a mansion with a carbon foot-print the size of Godzilla’s, and got around inefficiently (energy-wise) in carbon-ridiculous private jets. It wasn’t just the hypocrisies. It was the inaccuracies. His Oscar-winning documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” was rife with them, as revealed by investigations of the BBC and others. His predictions of a planet getting hotter and hotter to the point of famine and Florida disappearing under rising seas have failed to be realized.

The Mercury's Community Media Lab Opens Friday

Pottstown will be host of what could be a big part of the future of journalism: a Community Media Lab.

The Mercury will hold a grand opening Friday for the Community Media Lab, a first for Pennsylvania and one of the first-of-its-kind facilities in the entire nation.

The Community Media Lab is a state-of-the-art open newsroom project of Digital First Media, a pioneering communications company.

The public is invited to attend the grand opening between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at The Mercury, which is located at the intersection of Hanover and King streets in Pottstown.

From a Mercury article announcing the event:
The new lab is one of 10 “open door” community projects announced earlier this year by Digital First Media, which manages Journal Register Co., The Mercury’s parent company.

It will offer public access to newspaper archives, free Wi-Fi and use of computers in a coffeehouse atmosphere.

In the future, wall space in the lab will be available for student art displays, community group forums, political debates and workshops on blogging, writing resumés, job searches and producing videos, said Mercury editor Nancy March.

“The Community Media Lab is an extension of an initiative we started two years ago with our Town Square blogging network, and with this joint opening, it now involves downtown business,” she said.

Your Daily Dose of Liberal Media Bias

On Monday, more than 500 taxpayers rallied in Harrisburg in favor of a bill to eliminate school property taxes in Pennsylvania. The Associated Press and the Harrisburg Patriot-News did not send a reporter or photographer to the event. Today, less than 100 union members held a rally in favor of higher spending for education and welfare programs. The Associated Press has a story and the Harrisburg paper has a photo of the union members all wearing purple T-shirts. Anyone see any bias in how the liberal media covers events? And I digress, but did the 100 union members skip work to attend the rally?

PA Auditor General: Keep public notices in newspapers

Pennsylvania Auditor General Jack Wagner, the state's top elected Democrat, on efforts by the state Legislature to change the law requiring government bodies to publish legal notices in newspapers
House Bill 633, if enacted, would be another setback in making government more open and accountable to the public. Citizens interested in reviewing public notices would have to visit multiple websites to obtain the information they are seeking. This is not convenient and will decrease, rather than increase, bidding competition. In short, it's a bad deal for taxpayers.

1,000 jobs hang in balance if PA Legislature passes HB 633

Local and county government officials as well as school boards want to change the Pennsylvania law that requires them to publish legal notices of upcoming meetings in newspapers. They want to post meeting information on their respective websites instead.

In addition to keeping taxpayers in the dark about important decisions, House Bill 633 would also cost 1,000 jobs in Pennsylvania.

Tell your state lawmaker to vote no on HB 633.

Newspaper: Corbett's staff gets thorn for blocking access to governor

The people surrounding Gov. Tom Corbett are doing him a disservice by shielding him from the press. Why is he paying a press spokesman who refuses to even return phone calls to the press?

Gov. Corbett shuts out media

A really dumb move by Corbett's staff. This was a campaign rally to help a Republican win office. Instead the focus is on Corbett's secrecy and downright rudeness. Sneaking out a backdoor? The local TV station gave the event 15 seconds on the air since Corbett pulled the plug on coverage. The KGB-style actions of Corbett's staff ruined it for all.
