There's a clear distinction between Republican Tom Corbett and Democrat Dan Onorato when it comes to protecting Second Amendment rights.

Corbett, who is endorsed by the NRA, is a staunch defender of gun rights. Onorato backs gun-control measures.

That's why he has been endorsed by CeaseFirePA, a liberal advocacy group pushing for more gun-control measures against law-abiding Pennsylvania gun ownners.

Since May, Onorato has distinguished himself as the clear gubernatorial choice for Pennsylvanians concerned with the rising tide of gun violence in Commonwealth. Onorato has been one of the strongest voices in Pennsylvania for closing the Florida Gun Loophole. By contrast, Tom Corbett has refused to address the issue of gun violence – both as a candidate and as Pennsylvania's Attorney General. In a televised debate on October 16th, Corbett and Onorato sparred over how to address the Florida loophole. While Corbett once again dismissed the issue, "I don't believe there is a Florida loophole," Dan Onorato addressed it head on: "I don't need the Department of Agriculture in Florida telling me who should carry a gun in Pennsylvania."

As many suspected, liberal Judge Sonia Sotomayor does not believe the Second Amendment protects a citizen's right to own firearms.

From a press release issued by the Libertarian Party:

America's third largest party reiterated its opposition to the Supreme Court nomination of federal judge Sonia Sotomayor after the nominee refused to give a firm answer on whether individuals have the right of self-defense.

"Is there a constitutional right to self-defense?" Sotomayor asked when questioned by Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) whether or not the Constitution guaranteed him the right of self-defense. "I can't think of one. I could be wrong."

"Whether you agree with her position or not, Judge Sotomayor has had no problem stating that things not directly found in the Constitution are 'settled law.' That's why it's troubling that when confronted with a constitutionally-enshrined principle she disagrees with, the right to keep and bear arms for the defense of one’s rights, things are suddenly muddled and up for debate," said Donny Ferguson, Libertarian National Committee Communications Director.

"The Libertarian Party is the only party that never compromises in its defense of our Second Amendment-guaranteed rights. That's why we have opposed Judge Sotomayor's nomination from the moment we reviewed her troubling anti-gun record. Judge Sotomayor's answers Wednesday further show she believes the law should flow from her own personal biases and not the literal wording of the Constitution," said Ferguson.

Judge Sotomayor is the latest in a long line of hardline anti-gun activists nominated by President Obama to government positions where they would have the power to infringe on gun rights. Libertarians also opposed the nominations of anti-gun Attorney General Eric Holder and anti-gun State Department legal adviser Harold Koh.

"The Libertarian Party will hold accountable at the ballot box any senator who votes to confirm Judge Sotomayor. America's nearly 90 million gun owners come from all walks of life and political beliefs – and they decide their vote on this issue. Libertarians look forward to speaking with them about the LP's fundamental belief in gun rights, and their senator's voting record on it," said Ferguson.

"It is extremely important that a Supreme Court justice understand and appreciate the origin and meaning of the Second Amendment, a constitutional guarantee permanently enshrined in the Bill of Rights," said a letter from the group, which was hand-delivered to every member of the U.S. Senate. "Judge Sotomayor's record on the Second Amendment causes us grave concern about her treatment of this enumerated Constitutional right."

Gun Rights Leaders Join in Opposition to Sotomayor Confirmation

This is the gun control debate in a nutshell. Governments don't want citizens to own guns so the people can never stand up to a tyrannical government. How different things would have turned out in Iran if the people could have fought back against the government thugs carrying the guns.

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms believes Barack Obama's nomination of anti-gun Judge Sonia Sotomayor is part of his strategy to ignore the Second Amendment and impose gun control measures across the country.

Obama's Anti-Gun Strategy Is to Stack Courts, Says CCRKBA

One sector of the economy has been booming since Barack Obama became president. Buy your guns while you still have a chance.

Data from the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) show background checks on the sale of firearms jumped 28.8 percent in January when compared to January 2008. The increase follows a 24 percent rise in December and a 42 percent jump in November, when a record 1,529,635 background checks were performed.

Firearm Sales Continue Upward in January

You can't say this comes as a surprise. The National Rifle Association has endorsed Republican John McCain for president.

NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, who also serves as chairman of the NRA's political action committee, is planning to announce the group's endorsement at stops in key battleground states, including Pennsylvania, Missouri, Colorado and Nevada.

McCain "cast more than 60 votes in the Senate in support of the Second Amendment," LaPierre said.

Contrast that with Barack Obama, who supports gun control measures and has said the Second Amendment is subject to interpretation. Obama criticized the Supreme Court ruling earlier this year that said the Second Amendment guarantees the right of citizens, not militias, to bear arms.

Along with the endorsement, the NRA's Political Victory Fund is planning newspaper ads and television spots to remind gun owners that McCain will protect their rights while Obama would restrict gun ownership if he's elected president.

Although McCain has not always supported legislation pushed the NRA, the fact that his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is a member of the NRA, helped the group decide who to endorse in the 2008 race.

"She's a hunter, she's a Second Amendment supporter and she's a tremendous asset to the ticket," LaPierre told The Associated Press.

Palin received an A-plus rating from the group when she ran for governor in 2006.

LaPierre also noted that the NRA doesn't always endorse presidential candidates.

The group backed President George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004 but did not support Bob Dole in the 1996 race against Bill Clinton or George H.W. Bush in the 1992 race against Michael Dukakis.

If you're on the fence about the 2008 presidential race, Thursday's Supreme Court ruling on the Washington, D.C., gun ban, should help you make up your mind.

The four liberal members of the Supreme Court, voted to uphold the ban despite the U.S. Constitution's guarantee of the "right to bear arms."

If Barack Obama is elected president, he will appoint more liberals to the court and a liberal Supreme Court will start taking away Constitutional rights guaranteed to all Americans by the Founding Fathers.

John McCain has promised to appoint judges who will uphold the Constitution instead of trying to legislate from the bench.

So the 2008 election comes down to which person you want appointing Supreme Court justices. Barack Obama would use the court to further his liberal agenda. John McCain would nominate judges who've actually read the Constitution and would leave legislating to elected state legislatures and Congress.

Republican National Committee: Obama's Supreme Mistake On Guns

A gun control group is gloating over the fact that so-called "guns-on-campus" bills have been defeated in 15 states so far.

The measures were introduced after the tragic shootings at Virginia Tech.

Two states, Michigan and Ohio, are still considering enacting legislation to permit guns on college campuses.

Do you get the sense that gun violence is a game for some of these "advocacy" groups?

There was an incident in Japan earlier this month where a man stabbed 17 people on a crowded Tokyo street, killing seven of them. Where were the calls to ban knives?
