Stop the Presses! A Republican Wins in Philadelphia!

It hasn't happened in a quarter-century.

Republican Martina White has won the special election to fill a vacant seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from Philadelphia's 170th State House District.

The seat was held by Democrat Brandon Boyle, who resigned after he was elected to Congress. Registered Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-to-1 in this Northeast Philadelphia legislative district (which isn't as bad as the rest of Philadelphia, where Dems enjoy a 7-to-1 registered voter advantage.)

Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason released the following statement:

"Congratulations to Martina White on becoming the first newly elected Republican to represent a Philadelphia-based State House District in twenty-five years," Gleason said. "Martina White's strong work ethic and background in finance helped Martina to earn the support of the voters the 170th State House District. Martina's roots in the Northeast, focus on Northeast Philadelphia's local issues and  diverse coalition of support will make her a terrific state Representative and member of the Republican Caucus.

"The Republican Party of Philadelphia has turned the corner with Representative-elect Martina White's victory today. The hard work of Republican Party of Philadelphia is paying off, and I am confident that tonight’s win will be the first of many victories to come for the Philly GOP.

"I want to congratulate Philadelphia GOP Chairman and State Representative John Taylor, Speaker of the House Mike Turzai, Majority Leader Dave Reed and all of the volunteers and supporters who helped to make Martina’s victory possible. I look forward to watching State Representative-elect White use her voice to make a difference in her District with the now 120 member Republican House majority.

"In the first election after the Democrats announced their plans to hold their 2016 National Convention in Philadelphia, Republicans have delivered a resounding welcome with a huge win."

Website exposes Pa. Gov. Wolf's property tax scheme

Republican state lawmakers want Pennsylvania residents to understand the property tax shift scheme Gov. Tom Wolf proposed in his 2015-16 budget. Wolf wants to increase the state income tax and state sales tax permanently in exchange for temporary tax relief for some school districts.

The House Majority Appropriations Committee on Monday launched a new website - www.TaxpayersThatPay.com - that provides details on how Pennsylvania taxpayers in each of the state's 500 school district would fare under Gov. Tom Wolf's proposed property tax shift plan.

"Despite what the governor has been saying, his property tax shift proposal would cost many taxpayers across the Commonwealth far more than it would provide in property tax relief," state Rep. James R. Santora (R-Delaware) said. "Once it's fully implemented, the governor's plan would raise more than $8 billion in new taxes, but only put $3.6 billion toward property tax relief."

Poll: Fox News the Most Trusted Source of News, MSNBC Dead Last

If you're getting your news from CNN or MSNBC, you're better off turning to the Cartoon Network or the Comedy Channel. A new poll by a prestigious university finds more Americans by far trust top-rated Fox News than all the other networks, including ABC, CBS, CNN and CNN. MSNBC finished dead last in the poll, just like it does in the ratings.

Here's the link to the poll results from the recent Quinnipiac University results showing Fox News way ahead of all the other networks in trustworthiness:

Gov. Wolf’s Crushing $4.6 Billion Tax Increase Largest in Pa History

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf is following the Barack Obama model on economics: Raise taxes
and spend more, increase debt and put off dealing with serious issues like pension reform.

We all know how well that worked out for Obama. We're in Year 6 of the Obama Recession.
