Shocker: Joe Paterno, Penn State President Spanier ousted

What a shocker out of Happy Valley tonight.

The Penn State University Board of Trustees have removed Graham Spanier as president and Joe Paterno as head coach of the Nittany Lions football team.

Paterno led the Lions for 46 years and his team is 8-1 this year and was headed to a major bowl game.

The announcement was made after an emergency meeting of the PSU board of trustees. The decision to fire Paterno was unanimous.

Spanier was given an ultimatum: resign or be fired. He chose to resign effective immediately.

I guess no one individual (or in this case, two individuals) is bigger than the university.
