Radio Silence: WPAZ Goes Off The Air

WPAZ 1370 AM, a popular radio station serving the Pottstown area for nearly 50 years, abruptly went off the air this morning.

The station's corporate owner, Great Scott Broadcasting, told employees it was pulling the plug effective immediately to concentrate efforts on more profitable stations the company owns, reports The Mercury.

In addition to golden oldies, WPAZ carried Phillies baseball games and Penn State football games but was best known for its extensive coverage of high school football in the tri-county area of Montgomery, Chester and Berks counties.

The station also carried popular public affairs programs, including "The Nick Lawrence Show" and "Talking Politics with Tony Phyrillas and Mike Pincus."

For more details on the end of WPAZ, check out Friday's edition of The Mercury.

A sad thing to happen. I hope someone steps up to fill the void.
